Bring your concepts to life

Design technology and rapid prototyping for innovative online businesses

What we do

Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works.

Steve Jobs
Alphaware is a design technology company devoted to the creation of best-in-class prototypes for innovative companies of all sizes. Our mission is to shorten product development cycles and rapidly discover if proposed business concepts are viable.
We accomplish this by creating interactive prototypes that businesses use to refine user experience and gauge market response before investing signficant resources. Alphaware was created by Matthew Law and has served businesses around the world.

What we offer

What is
Information Architecture

In a word, it's the 'structure' of your site. Simple diagrams are used to illustrate how site information should be organized, which helps your design team create visual comps for the development team prior to buildout.
Think of it as your site blueprint.

Need help organizing your product information and website into a cohesive offering?

What is
Design Technology

Design Technology is the cutting edge of 'lean' business approaches. It involves creating rapid prototypes of your designs so that you can test your market theories and product ideas before you invest significant time and resources on the development of production code.

Want to turn your designs into a prototype you can use to gauge customer response?

What is
Application Development

Testing market response is one thing... Bringing your product to life is another. Application development is the creation of production ready, enterprise quality code that can be deployed and used in your business for customer facing projects and applications.

Ready to turn your design and prototypes into a fully functional, revenue generating machine?

Enterprise Quality Code

If you can dream it, we can build it

Think of Alphaware as an extension of your design team.

We convert designs that you create into fully functional prototypes.

Here's what the process looks like from start to finish.

1. Define Scope

We meet with your team lead to discuss your goals for the project and the scope of work.

2. Visual Design

Your design team creates visual comps and interaction diagrams to specify what needs built.

3. Architecture

We design out a prototype architecture that's in line with the goals and priorities of your project.

4. Launch

We meet with your design team to clarify design direction before we begin prototype development.

5. Buildout

Development begins and we create a full working prototype based upon your design specifications.

6. Adjustments

Along the way, we have weekly checkins with your team to make sure everything is on target.

7. Final Signoff

We meet with the team one last time to confirm that the prototype achieves the intended goals.

8. Gauge Response

The prototype is used to test response and we re-engage as needed to refine the final product.

Why Build a Prototype for Your Online Product?

"The best way of learning about anything is by doing."

Richard Branson
In the excitement of developing a product, we often forget that we are developing it for a specific type of person. An online product may fulfill our vision, but if it doesn't inspire our users to buy and to tell their friends about us, we miss a valuable opportunity.
Putting a working prototype in the hands of your customers allows you to see first hand where the design shines and where it stumbles. And it gives you the opportunity to improve experience and fix design errors before they become costly mistakes.

"Identify your problems, but give your power and energy to solutions."

Tony Robbins
Knowing what to build is often more important than knowing how you will build it. Developing an online product and bringing it to market is no easy task, and determining what is genuinely important to your end user is of the utmost importance.
Don't fall into the trap of solving problems that don't need to be solved! Some of the best insights can come from seeing a real user using a prototype of your product, and it can clarify what features you should let go of, and where to focus your resources.

"What’s missing isn’t the ideas… it’s the will to execute them."

Seth Godin
We've all been there... You have an idea that you know can work, but the decision makers can't see your vision the way that you do. More projects have been stopped in their tracks by a lack of imagination than all other factors put together!
Having a tangible prototype that demonstrates how the final product will look and behave can fill in the blanks for those that are still undecided... And along the way, it also helps to clarify things in your mind so that when the questions are asked, you'll be ready!

"The only way to win is to learn faster than everyone else."

Eric Ries
We're a big fan of lean startup principles, and in business, it's the teams that make the most mistakes and learn to adapt in the fastest way possible that win in the end. Companies that achieve this bounce back from adversity and outpace competition.
No one has a crystal ball, and mistakes in business are inevitable. But you can minimize your exposure to risk by testing your theories with a working prototype before you invest in costly development. The learning is the same, for a fraction of the cost.

"In the middle of chaos lies opportunity."

Bruce Lee
Last but not least, we come to the reason you are creating a product in the first place... Your customers. Do they need your product? Do they understand it? Will they use it? And most importantly, will it be so amazing that they can't wait to tell their friends?
A working prototype can demonstrate the highs and lows of their experience with your product before you actually build it. If it inspires them to ask when they can get access to the real thing, you know you're on the right track to something truly remarkable.

Matt is a world class web developer who possesses strong technical skills and impressive business acumen.

Robb Miller, Vice President, Product Management, Marcus Technologies

What people say?

Matthew has worked on a number of development projects for me. In every one, he has gone above and beyond in his attention to details, in his diligence, and in the quality of his deliverables. His attitude consistently amazed me in both its pleasantness in the face of pressure and his belief that he can solve anything. He's an exceptional performer who works as well on a team as he does on his own.

Richard Margetic, Executive Director of Social, Intuit

What people say?

I had the absolute pleasure of working with Matt on a difficult technical project at Dell. Not only is Matt technically savvy, he is detail-oriented, solutions-focused and easy to work with. He grasps the complex and can provide updates and explanations in a way that us non-tech savvy people can fully understand. He is truly an asset and I hope I get the chance to work with him again in the future.

Kerri Sutey, Enterprise Agile Coach, IBM

What people say?

Matt has been a pleasure to work with. His technical grasp of concepts and ability to come up with creative solutions has been extremely helpful with a complex global project at Dell currently being launched across all of Dell external websites and properties. He understands both the big picture as well as fine technical details. He has been an asset when working with partners and internal business teams

Ericka Norman, TBM Lead, Hewlett Packard Enterprise

What people say?

Matt is that rare detail-oriented and technically skilled person who can also see the big picture strategy. He seeks to find answers when faced with roadblocks and does a great job of explaining technical detail in understandable language. I enjoyed working with Matt and wouldn't hesitate to do it again if the opportunity arises.

Laura Pevehouse, Chief Blogger/Editor-in-Chief, Dell

What people say?

He is probably one of the best web developers that I have had the opportunity to work with... Matthew is a unique blend of analytic web technologist and strategic project manager, and he evaluates all technology decisions in terms of how they will affect business objectives.
